Security Myths

A myth, in its traditional sense, refers to a narrative originating in ancient cultures that explains natural phenomena, human origins, or societal norms, often involving gods, heroes, and supernatural elements. These stories were integral to understanding the world and shaping cultural identities. Over time, the term “myth” evolved, and in modern usage, it often signifies a widely held but false belief or misconception — ideas or assumptions that persist despite being debunked, such as urban legends or misunderstood scientific facts – or, like in the cases here, things stubbornly and falsely considered canon in IT security. Some of these beliefs may have been correct at one time, but all of them should be relegated to the big recycling bin of history.

The myths:
